$26 Million renovation features live table games, Nova Bar, MATCH Eatery & Public House, The Buffet

Point Edward, ON – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited has officially opened the brand-new Starlight Casino, Point Edward. Starlight Point Edward is the first Starlight brand to open in Ontario and follows on a $26 million renovation announced on June 26, 2017. The Starlight Casino brand will provide guests with the glitz, glamour and vintage feel of retro Vegas in a high energy atmosphere, centered around a dining, gaming and entertainment experience that sets it uniquely apart from any other entertainment facility.

The new Starlight Casino Point Edward is home to Gateway’s signature brand restaurants MATCH Eatery & Public House, The Buffet and the Nova Bar, a new cocktail lounge and a first for Ontario to join its cousin in Starlight Edmonton. Located just outside Sarnia in the Village of Point Edward, the casino features 25 live table games, three devoted exclusively to Poker and 494 slots across 75,000 square feet and employs 340 people.

“This is a great day for Gateway and caps a more than year-long renovation that has resulted in a spectacular, state-of-the art gaming, dining and entertainment attraction for the people of Point Edward and the greater Sarnia-Lambton region – as well as our American friends across the river,” said Keith Andrews, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of Gateway Casinos. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank our staff and the great team we have in Point Edward for looking after our customers throughout the course of this ambitious project. As well, I want to thank the Mayor and Council of Point Edward for their support in making this day happen.”

“As a small community, we truly appreciate the new partnership we have with Gateway. The payments we receive allows Point Edward to do so much within our village and our broader community such as supporting the college, the hospice, and other local services. This renovation demonstrates Gateway’s commitment to this area,” said Mayor of the Village of Point Edward, Bev Hand.

Starlight Point Edward was designed and built with an eye to complimenting the surrounding community – on both sides of the border – with a broad audience in mind, not just guests who only enjoy casino gaming. The MATCH Eatery & Public House has a separate entrance from the casino, it’s an ideal venue for families or anyone who wants to savour a great meal or a casual drink while admiring a beautiful view of the river and the Bluewater Bridge. The MATCH Eatery & Public House is featured at 10 of Gateway’s locations in Western Canada and has proven one of our most popular dining destinations.

“We always try to capture the unique character and spirit of the community at each of our locations. Starlight Point Edward is a fun place with entertainment for every taste set against a beautiful natural environment,” said Starlight Point Edward General Manager, Linda McColl.

To further celebrate this event, Gateway will donate $2 from the sale of every Meatzza Pizza and $1 from every sale of Suburban Menace craft beer to the Canadian Cancer Society starting today through to December 28.

Also new to Point Edward is the Nova Bar which is located inside the casino on the gaming floor right next to all the action. The Nova Bar features the same array of exotic drinks as MATCH along with craft beers and the regular fare you would expect from a funky, upscale cosmopolitan cocktail lounge. The Nova Bar is the perfect spot to plan a romantic rendezvous, soak up the ambiance and excitement of the gaming floor or sip on a beverage and enjoy some lively conversation with friends.

Completing the Starlight culinary landscape is The Buffet, a place guaranteed to satisfy most every appetite with a combination of excellent food at value pricing. The ever-changing menu highlights cuisine from around the globe with popular theme nights featuring an array of international specialties.

The grand opening celebrations continue this evening, starting at 6 p.m. on the casino floor. Guests can earn double ballots for the Gateway Winner Wonderland Jeep Giveaway and enjoy complimentary appetizers while you play. Mark the occasion with friends in the photo booth or snap pictures with Elvis as he croons throughout the casino. The Geoff Masse trio takes the MATCH stage at 8 p.m. just before the Gateway VIP Rama Experience draw at 9 p.m.

I was trying hard not to comment on how we were poorly treated at this restaurant last December. But lo & behold! I got a survey request from them.... so I thought why not put it here?
We were planning a dinner out with family and friends, to celebrate a milestone last December. A dinner which was planned out a month ahead. We initially called Match Eatery since we are regulars, however, they could not accommodate us on the preferred date so its ok, we were fine with it. We made reservations at another restaurant. A week before the schedule, Match Eatery called us, saying they have a cancellation and could now accommodate our big group. So arrangements for a long table for us to sit all together was made, and we cancelled our reservation at the other restaurant. And we also made another reservation for January with them.
Come that date... we went to Match Eatery... approached the reception area... and I asked for our reservations. I noticed there was some hullabaloo happening in the reception, in which I ignored. After about 5~ 10 min, a bald white guy approached us and led us to 2 small tables. I mentioned we reserved a long table....this bald guy told me there has been some mixed up and they could not give us a long table... so I was standing right there thinking what to do next as our party is supposed to arrive any minute now... This bald guy, obviously annoyed, told me... “you can sit on those 2 tables or stay outside as we cannot do anything for you”. WTF???!!! My blood rushed to my head - Is he trying to throw us out? You do not throw out guests coz you messed up their reservations! You try to appease them and ask yourself what you can do to alleviate the situation! I was fuming mad - went to the reception area again and explained what happened. We simply could not sit on those separate tables and we specifically asked for a long one so we could sit together. The bald guy disappeared from the scene. We were left unattended, while they were attending to their guests.

So we were hanging out near the reception area, waiting.... at this point I didn’t know what we were waiting for. After being unattended for quite sometime, a Fil lady approached us and asked what happened. She could probably hear the desperation in my voice as I was talking and she understood. They messed up our reservations so they need to fix it, I said. This lady said she’ll do something. After prob 20~30 mins we were led to a different table. This time its 2 tables but enclosed in such a way that we could still face everbody. Not exactly what we wanted but good enough. We sat there and the bald guy appeared again and gave us the utensils with a grin all over his face and was saying something...I was so annoyed at him so I gave him a face palm and rolled my eyes. I wonder, why did he treat us that way.... is it coz of our color? Or maybe he was just so bad at his job, he forgot he is in the customer service business and manners went down the drain? I would like to think it’s the latter. But bottom line, that bald guy needs to undergo a customer service training.... like, seriously! He gave all of us a very bad vibe that night.
Fast forward to January... they called us again, left a voice message asking if we are going per our reservation. That white bald guy left a really bad taste in our mouths that we couldn’t bring ourselves to call them and cancel! So are we going? Are you kidding me? Not in a thousand years! Never again!
